How to get unstuck
A blank project is the hardest part. Fenophone is built to get you past it: open it, move the dials, and you have something playing in seconds. Here is the short way to a keeper.
Step by step
-
Open it and pick a starting feel
Land on a genre that matches your mood — ambient to sink into, beat-driven to push, cinematic to build. It is already playing; you are choosing a room, not a preset to dig through.
-
Drag intensity until it grabs you
Intensity is energy. Sweep it slowly from soft to hard and stop where the part comes alive. You are not placing notes — you are conducting what is already there.
-
Open spread for room, or close it for focus
Spread is width. Pull it wide and the part fills out; pull it in and it gets lean and pointed. Intensity and spread cover most of the distance between boring and interesting.
-
Change the key or tempo if it is not landing
Still flat? Move the key — a darker mode can turn a dull loop moody, a brighter one can lift it. Nudge the tempo to your project's. The frame often unlocks the part.
-
Capture the moment it sounds good
Do not wait for perfect. The second a passage feels like an idea, capture it. It snaps to whole bars, loops seamlessly, and is now yours to keep, stack, share, or export.
In short
That is the whole loop: open, move the dials, capture. Do it a few times and you have a small stack of ideas — and not a blank project in sight.
